It’s that time of year again. Yes, it’s Groundhog’s Day. Today, curious armature weather forecasters will converge on the small town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to hear an overweight groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil predicts the weather.

Tradition says it that if Phil emerges from his temporary burrow at Gobblers Knob in the center of the small town and sees his shadow, the United States will see six more weeks of frigid winter temperatures. However, if no shadow appears below the animal, then warmer spring temperatures are right around the corner.

According to the official Punxsutawney Phil Groundhog Day Web site, Groundhog Day is the result of a blend of ancient Christian and Roman customs that came together in Germany.
