Accused teacher, Dennis May, Jr, Speaks To E-Portage Before Commiting Suicide 02-15-2009
Stow, OH - Hudson School District Teacher, Dennis May, Jr., 35, committed suicide on Friday, but not before talking to E-Portage news.
May was arrested and arrested on Wednesday for disseminating matter harmful to a juvenile. After pleading not guilty and released on a $5000 bond, he had a brief telephone conversation with E-Portage.
In the telephone call, he denied the allegations against him saying, “I Appreciate all the support from the community. I was reading on the chat boards how people can’t believe this and I appreciate their love and support.”
When asked if he had a message for the school, he went on to say, “Only that I appreciate that the school has handled everything professionally.”
The following day, responding to a 911 call by may, Stow police found the teacher dead in his garage with an apparent, single-shot gunshot wound in his head.
May had called 911 before he took his life, in what seemed less like a plea for help, but more a notification of this impending death. May told Stow dispatch, “I'll be in the garage and the front door is unlocked, but I'll open the garage door, too.” just after informing her that he a gun in his hand.
After the dispatcher’s pleas to have him stay on the line until police could arrive, May apologized to the dispatcher that she was the one that had to take the call and simply said, “Thank you, goodbye.” That would be the last words that May would speak to anyone before killing himself.
According to the Police, along with the body, they found a bolt-action rifle; his driver's license and a suicide note were found near May's body. The same note was found in his personal computer. Police officials have not released the details of the suicide note.
Here are the transcripts of the 911 Call.
