Take a culinary holiday
to the Pufferbelly in Kent this
Christmas

Many people will dine in
Kent this Holiday Season, but if you don’t
stop into the Pufferbelly at 152 Franklin
Avenue, your making a mistake.
A stop for the Atlantic and
Great Western Rail Lines, the building that
houses the Pufferbelly was constructed in
1875, serving as the main train depot for
the area. Today, you can still
hear the sounds of the trains outside, as
you semi-casually dine in the station on
some of the areas finest cuisine.
Reminiscent of how things
used to be, snuggled into a train station
from another time, you will find a dining
experience that isn't available anywhere
else. When I dined there this week, I
found the service to be warm and friendly
and the ambiance decked out for the
Christmas Holiday.
The menu at the Pufferbelly
ranges from a burger and fries, to fresh
fish or steak entrees. You

My order consisted of the
following:
A
Bowl of Manhattan Clam Chowder
($3.50)
If you are a chowder fan,
you probably know that it is almost
impossible to find Manhattan Clam Chowder
(The red one), here in Northeast Ohio.
For me, it’s my favorite, and it was
prepared perfectly.
Nachos ($6.95)
Tortilla chips topped with black olives,
tomatoes, jalapeno peppers, scallions, Jack
and cheddar cheese with a side of salsa.
Don’t let the simple name fool you; this was
a bountiful plate, piled on, with a ton of
fresh vegetables and cheese.
Chicken Pufferbelly
($10.25)
A boneless chicken breast breaded in
Parmesan cheese and seasoned breadcrumbs and
served over a bed of fettuccini Alfredo
tossed with fresh vegetables.
I really
enjoyed this dish. It was kept
simple and fresh. The chicken
came pre-sliced on a bed of perfectly
prepared pasta. Unlike many
restaurants, the alfredo sauce was not
overly thick and seasoned.
If you are in
Kent and want to dine on some fantastic
food, in a warm atmosphere where you don’t
feel rushed, check out the Pufferbelly.
